The winds have not been cooperating with our plans the last couple of days, so Amy and I decided to leave Sheboygan yesterday late morning as the winds were forecasted to slow a little around noon. We pulled out of the harbor and into the main break wall area around 11:25am for what should have been an easy 27 mile run south to Port Washington.
Well the winds did NOT lighten up at all. As we started out, still inside the break wall, the waves were coming up over the anchor and the bow. That was the first sign we ignored! Should have turned around and put it right back into the slip. Instead we headed out with the forecast in mind. We got about 10 miles down the shore and found ourselves in 20-30 MPH winds and 5-6′ waves, with the occasional larger wave. Had to change the heading several times to keep the nose above water, but by that time we decided we would keep going.
As we pulled into Port Washington around 1 PM, all three of us were glad to be tied to a dock. Memphis did not enjoy the ride at all, as she laid down out back and had a waterfall coming down on her from the spray coming up and over the boat and down on her from the roof. She got right off the boat at the gas dock and I was not sure she would get back on. She did and is ready to go again!

Sorry but these are the only two pictures for today, as I had to hang on to the wheel and my seat to keep us in the correct direction! Note Amy’s bike is no longer on the bow, waves lifted the bow so much that her bike went airborne and broke the holder. Luckly no damage to the boat, but I had to go up on the bow in the waves to get it back into the cockpit.
Port Washington is a great little town, and we were able to get Chinese food for dinner! (we don’t have any Chinese food options in Door County) It was great!

We planned to stay here two nights, but may move later this afternoon if the winds lighten a little. We will see, Amy and I agree, WE SHOULDN’T HAVE GONE, so we will not repeat our experience from yesterday.
Hope you have a great start to your week and more to come when we move again.
