Let’s Try This Again 9/25/23

After many discussions with my weather advisor, brother Skip, Amy and I decided we would try to run the Lake again today. We all agreed that with the forecast for the rest of the week, our best weather window to move South was from about 11am to 4pm today. At 11am, Amy and I agreed to give it a try and if the water was anything like Sunday, we would return to the harbor in Port Washington. Wind had dropped to 8-10 knots and waves were forecasted at 2-3′. A lot better than the 20+ knots of wind and 6′ waves we had the other day!

We left the dock at 11:45am. It was as predicted and Who Dat ran great. We made the run from Port Washington down to Kenosha, 57 miles, and were able to run at cruise speed the entire way. Running at 24-25 MPH allowed us to get into Kenosha at 2PM. We got lucky and the rainstorms that we planned to run through split us twice and we did not really get any additional bad weather or increased winds. All three of us were happy with this. Memphis is once again happy to be with us on the boat!

We passed by Milwaukee, which we were supposed to stay in for a night or two.

Also received a surprise picture from a friend transporting a boat North, as we were a few miles South of Port Washington. I guess people are watching you all the time! We wanted to continue down the shore, so we do not miss our scheduled lock run with flotilla #3. We are supposed to be on the Joliet Wall Oct 2nd for departure down the Illinois River with our group.

We will be held up here in Kenosha for a few days based on wind and waves. Soft plan, all plans have to be soft on this trip, is for us to travel down to Hammond on Thursday or Friday when the wind and waves cooperate.

Until then, time to see Kenosha and fix a few parts that did not like all the water and waves on our trip down to Port Washington! Broke a bike rack, as the bike was sent up into the air as the front 1/3 of the boat was launched, and a shorted-out a switch that did not like that much water running through it.

Until we move, hope you continue to have a great week!
