Sunday started as an early and great day. Got Amy up early for 7:30am church service and then our last breakfast at Franks’ Diner!
We left Kenosha’s Southport Harbor this morning at 10:20am with 5-10MPH winds out of the south and 2′ or less waves straight off the bow. Who Dat loves the waves directly off the bow.

Leaving Southport Marina
We did not run the shoreline as the land had haze on shore and you could not see very well. We ran the most direct course and cut the distance to 64 miles today.
Once again I was not able to run as a trawler, I just don’t seem to be able to run at 10MPH! I will have to figure that out for the rivers, as I will not have a choice then! It did enable us to arrive in Hammond by 1:15PM, though!
We did get a nice view of Chicago as we went by, and you can see how nice the conditions were for running.

Boat has been running great, and we tested it early with some big waves. Today she let me know she was not happy with how I have been treating her. As I pulled the throttles back when we arrived in Hammond, my port engine decided to act up. Not sure what is going on, but will call the local Cat dealer and hope to get them out here in the next day or two and get things worked out.
As we tied up, you could not help but notice all the boats flying Loop flags proudly. Not sure exactly how many are staging here, but someone on the dock was telling me just over 90. We got to meet several loopers, and even got to enjoy a drink with several on someone else’s boat!
Quick dinner on the boat tonight to participate in another AGLCA loop zoom meeting. At this time, all looks good for us to leave Hammond this Saturday and start down the river system.
Obviously that all depends on when I can get the Cat mechanic to the marina and what they find as well!
Stay tunned for my unhappy engine update and hope everyone has a great week ahead!
