Kaskaskia Lock 10/15/2023

So a long day today through two locks, the Mel Price and The Chain Of Rocks Lock. The Chain of Rock is famous because if you miss the turn for the lock channel, which some have done, you literally end up on the rocks and your boat gets destroyed!

We were lucky and talked with the lock master before leaving the dock and pulled right into the lock without waiting. It was and early morning departure in the dark to accomplish this!

By the way, they even put a big sign out on the point so you don’t go the wrong way!

It was a fun day, as we got to see the guy, and Wilson, who are doing the Loop in a kayak in the Chain of Rocks lock!

Then down river passed St Louis and the Arch. We took turns with buddy boats so we could pictures of each other in front of the Arch.

Then it was down river with a nice push from the river. The current is so strong, the big girl was getting fuel efficient for the first time in her life! Note the RPM’s, speed, and fuel burn!

We continued downstream until the turn off for the Kaskaskia Lock and dam. There were a total of 8 boats tied to the wall that night and we had a great dock tales.

It is a narrow little river channel up to the lock.

We will leave out early again tomorrow morning as we want to run 115 miles and make it almost to the end of the Miss River!

Here is part of today’s NEBO log, as you can see over the next couple days, the log will cut in and out based on no coverage in the areas we are in!

That’s it for tonight, hope you had a great day and more to come tomorrow as we look for a good spot to anchor on the river!
