The Next River 10/18/2023

First, good morning to our precious little Eleanor Parkes Heidler, who turned 1 Year Old today, Oma and Opa love you and miss you very much!

We took our time getting going today as we were only running 47 miles. We left Paducah at 8:30am and headed up the Ohio River. This took us past the entrance to the Tennesse River, to the Cumberland River and avoid a lot of commercial traffic. The plan worked, when we arrived at the Lake Barkley Lock and Dam we pulled right in without any wait. We have been very lucky so far to not have any long waits for lock throughs.

We have now traveled on parts of the following rivers: the Illinois River, the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi River, the Mississippi River, the Ohio River, the confluence of the Tennesse River and Ohio River, and now the Cumberland River. We will hop over to the Tennesse River as we head south from here next week.

The Cumberland River was narrow and very scenic.

We headed between the islands, by the two large steel bollards. This is the confluence of the Ohio and Cumberland.

The great views continued!

We arrived at the lock, the only one for the day, and pulled right in for a large lift upstream. The lift was 54′ today. It was a large but not too quick a lift.

Here is a copy of our NEBO link for Mark so he knows where we are.

Yes we did run for a short time just to keep the engines cleaned out.

Arrived at Green Turtle Bay Resort and Marina at 1:30pm. We once again fueled full and pumped out the tanks. Cheap fuel compared to the rest of the rivers so far, $4.79/gallon. We have enjoyed 1.67 miles per gallon since leaving Alton! Boy would that be nice all the time!

We enjoyed a nice walk around the property and even got a tour from Paul, the golf cart shuttle driver. And I mean a tour! He took us for an hour and a half ride around the property and then into town. We now know GTB and Grand Rivers area very well! We will enjoy renting a golf cart ourselves on Friday and Saturday so we can resupply and enjoy the area.

I will post our time here in GTB before we pull out on Monday. We have a few items to do to the boat and cleaning of the dinghy well before we exchange it for a new one on Monday. This has been planned as the dinghy we have was damaged in delivery this last Spring.

Hope you have a great rest of your week and start of your weekend.
