Moving Along 12/6/2023

Hello from Apalachicola FL. We have moved the past three days from Pensacola-Destin-Panama City-Apalachicola. We had a short stay but a great time in Destin as we anchored in Destin harbor. The run from Pensacola to Destin was easy and only about 52 miles. The weather was overcast and the winds were light.

We arrived at Destin harbor at 1:30pm and had plenty of time to see the area and enjoy a few drinks and then dinner out for some great seafood.

Our anchor hole in Destin Harbor. Very quiet and well protected.

We took the dinghy to shore with Memphis for a little time off the boat and to have a drink and sightsee.

By the way, I thought it was only northerners that called it the Redneck Riviera, but they own it down here!

Took Memphis back to the boat and then it was time for a great seafood dinner at Boshamps. Again, traveling everywhere by dinghy.

The next morning we got going by 7:30am and headed 66 miles to Panama City to stay at Point South Marina Bay Point. We ran into a lot of loopers there and went out for a fun dinner at Flip Flops!

We are now to Tuesday morning, 12/5/2023, and traveling toward the Gulf for our crossing window. The crossing window is the term for good weather and calm seas to cross the 170 miles of the open Gulf to Taron Springs. We are hoping for a good window Thursday night late into Friday mid-day.

We traveled another 66 miles from Panama City to Apalachicola FL and tied up at the municipal wall for the night. We arrived at 2pm CST, and then had to switch all our clocks to EST! We will now be on eastern time until next June!

Today’s route took us through some very narrow and shallow areas. The next picture is what it looks like from the wheel, and the picture of the chart shows the depth just outside the channel. Stay in the channel!!

The channel is narrow as well, in some spots only 40 yards or so wide. Not much room for error.

This was my favorite picture of the day, with the bird standing just off the channel!

Today, Wednesday 12/6/2023 will be a short run of 30 miles to the Moorings Marina in Carrabelle FL. This is where we will wait for the weather window to cross.

And last but not least, we have had so many dolphins playing and swimming with the boat as we move along. It is so much fun to see them coming toward the boat and then riding in the bow push. Amy is enjoying standing on the bow watching them.

The most fun so far, were the two that jumped out of the water even with the top of our rail and I got so see them from the helm. They were even with Amy’s waist standing on the deck.

I will post more soon, but hope you have a great week!

My proofreader is still in bed, so please enjoy all the errors in my writing!
