Good morning from Great Guana Cay. We spent 3 nights at Hope Town before moving over to Marsh Harbor for one night and then on to Great Guana Cay. This entire area was devastated by Hurrican Dorian in 2019 and they have been working hard to rebuild.
We spent two days touring Hope Town and all that Elbow Cay has to offer. From the light house tour to a party on a sand bar.

Famous Elbow Reed Light House that can be seen for many miles. This is rare for the Bahamas, as you don’t see most islands until you are within 7-8 miles. Things are very flat down here.

The light is still powered by kerosene!

The next several pictures are from the top of the light house of the surrounding area.

This is the Hope Town Inn and Marina where we are staying on the boat.

We enjoyed the history and tour of the light house and then rented a golf cart to see the rest of the island. The south end of the island is where all the money was, and still is. The south end has been almost completely rebuilt while the north end is coming along slowly.

Even found a house with outdoor plumbing! Lots of foundations still around and not yet rebuilt.
The next day was sunny and nice so we took the dinghy to Tahiti Beach on the south end where a food and drink boat comes onto the sand bar and the party starts! There were many people and boats on the sand bar, as well as a swing in the middle of the bar.

Pano view of the sand bar area on the south end.

All the kids got to play on the swings!

We spent two days with our buddy boaters from Three Sons, and continue to move west with them toward the US.
After our time in Hope Town, we moved over to Marsh Harbor and stayed at the Conch Inn and Marina. This is a family owned and operated facility, and it was great. They also treated us to fresh baked bread for the boat!

The water in this area is very shallow. You can see by our course we had to go out and around a lot of coral and sand bars. This seems to be standard for the Abacos.

View from the main dock at Marsh Harbor.

The docks are brand new, and they built them to withstand the next hurricane. They are so far above the water. This picture of Amy is at high tide! It was a lot of fun to get Memphis off at low tide. Oh yeah, she also tried to jump back on the boat once at low tide and slipped on the dock with her back end and went straight down between the boat and dock. She really didn’t mind the swim!
We only spent one night at Marsh Harbor as they are behind on their rebuilding of the area. There really is not much to offer for visitors there yet. We then moved to Great Guana Cay and are staying at Orchid Bay Resort and Marina for the next several nights.

There are two famous beach bars here on Great Guana Cay, Nippers and Grabbers. This is Grabbers behind us and we will stop by Nippers once the weather clears.

The wind and weather are going to keep us stranded here until at least next Tuesday based on the current forecast. We will explore the island more on Sunday after the really bad storms, we hope. We have received weather warnings with gale force winds and an expected 6-8″ of rain along with the chance of hail tomorrow. We will hope for the best, but expect we will not be getting much sleep the next couple of nights until the winds switch back to the north and we are better protected.
I will post again Sunday or Monday after things settle back down. Until then enjoy March Madness and have a great rest of your weekend.
