Limping Along 4/14/2024

Good morning from St Augustine, FL. Since the last post we moved from Daytona to Palm Coast, and then again to St Augustine. We continue to have a couple problems with the port engine but have found a good mechanic who is trying to figure out what is going on for us. He is actually on his way from Daytona to St Augustine as I write this post.

He replaced a throttle sensor while we were in Daytona after finding out that the one that CAT installed for us in Hammond 6 months ago was a bad part. CAT should be taking care of that bill, but we will see. We continue to get a vibration and unusual noise from the engine when we get to about 1400 RPM’s. Now I have low turbo boost pressure when this happens. He is coming today to look at the turbo and sea trial so we can put this issue to bed. We first thought it was caused by the fuel line issue, then the throttle sensor issue, and now we hope to solve it! No one before now has gone on a sea trial, so I am pushing for that this morning. Not being able to run at higher speeds has not been an issue the last couple of moves as we have been in the ICW, and you have to go slow anyway. That being said, I want it working properly and we will be going outside in the Atlantic again soon and would like the power and speed.

So while trying not to worry to0 much about what he will find and what it will cost, we are trying to enjoy the towns so we don’t miss out on this travel experience.

Our last evening in Daytona we took in a minor league baseball game and had a blast. The Daytona Tortugas were down by 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th and came back with a solo homer and then a two-run homer to win. What a great way to end our time in Daytona.

By the way, we got in as seniors, 55 and older, for all of $11 and it was thirsty Thursday so 24oz beers were $4.00 each. That was a cheap date night for sure.

After leaving Daytona we continued up the ICW to Palm Coast. A nice easy move of 30 miles.

Did have to wait a little for a bridge to open for us, but only one that day.

Pano of the resort and marina. We were actually on the outside wall but it was pretty calm for just the one night.

They call this the European Village in Palm Coast. It has lots of little shops and several restaurants. We enjoyed an inexpensive Italian dinner out for a change. There really was not much else around the area, so we were happy to spend only one night.

Leaving the marina and heading back out into the ICW to move 25 miles to St Augustine.

After washing the boat down again and looking into the engine issue, we took some time and started to explore the town. There is a lot of history here and we hope to explore a lot more over the next 2 days.

The old Spanish Fort on the river on the north end of the downtown area.

They still do reenactments in the fort for all to enjoy.

Fun to catch the muzzle blast!

You can see the bow of WHO DAT sticking out between two sailboats but tucked in safely for a few days.

Little history for all those who visit Florida but haven’t paid attention before!

I will end this post now as the mechanic should be here shortly. We are hoping this is nothing major but will find out later today. We just need to get things back and running properly.

Hope you have a great Sunday and enjoy the last round of the Masters for those golf fans that are reading. For those that aren’t golf fans, hope you are enjoying Spring as it starts to warm and green things up!
