Quick Update 05/20/2024

We are still sitting here in St Agustine and waiting for the transmission to be rebuilt. They do have all the parts in now, and we hope to get the transmission back to the boat near the end of this week. We have now been in St Augustine since April 13th.

Amy and I have continued to explore the area and try to relax while also planning for our trip north up the east coast.

Our local morning breakfast spot. Just a short walk from the boat.

Yes, you see everything going on here!

Tradewinds Bar in downtown St Augustine has some great bands on the weekends.

Took a dinghy ride Saturday to a local beach area. People watching can be fun.

Set up for people watching. We did have to move the dinghy closer to shore and take the chairs up higher as the tide came in while we were enjoying. We plan to go back there this weekend for the Memorial Day festivities.

Pano of the area as the weather changed and everyone was pulling up anchor.

We received some additional bad news last Friday and Saturday when we learned they damaged part of the engine coupling while removing the transmission. Good news is they actually have that part in stock.

You can see the three cracks in the female part that the shaft goes into. The owner of the rebuild shop stopped by the boat on Friday and found this. He came back on Saturday morning, and with my help we removed this from the engine and he took it away to replace. I am working with the local shop on the cost of that part!

We still hope to see the transmission back here this Thursday and best case we start to move north again around May 30th. We really hope this happens. We also need to be north of the FL/GA line by June 1st for insurance reasons.

We do try to keep up with family while we have been traveling over the last 8 months. Amy and I send the girls a video several times a week from Oma and Opa and the things we are enjoying. We do really miss family and our friends.

Adeline Mae Heidler (turned 3 in May)

The weather is starting to turn and we are seeing more rain and stronger winds. I am understanding why you want to be north of here by now. It is also getting very hot everyday. Cold front came through today and we will only see a high of 84!

We really hope to have good weather and the right wind direction for us to make an outside run from St Augustine to Savanah as soon as we can move again. This will put us north of the insurance line and skip most of the shallow GA ICW. From there we hope to go outside again and jump up to Georgetown, SC. From that point we hope to stay inside and use the ICW up to Norfolk, VA. We hope to be in the New York City area around the second or third week of June.

We have to keep in mind, ALL PLANS ARE SOFT!

I will update again when the transmission gets returned and at least slid into place. At that point they will have a couple days to hook it all back together and then we will have a better idea of timing to move north.

Until then, I hope you all have a great week and enjoy the weather warming up!
