Good morning from Cape May, NJ. Since the last post we have continued to move north up the Chesapeake Bay, crossed over the C&D Canal, and ran the length of Delaware Bay.
We left Annapolis Sunday morning and had a nice slow 50 mile run to Havre de Grace, MD. This is a town full of history and also known as the historic home for handmade hunting decoys. This will be our last town in the Chesapeake Bay area. We have been told that we missed so much of the bay area, but also told that it is much like the Michigan and Door County area. We would agree, the small towns are very similar to our normal cruising ground.
A few last shots from Annapolis.

One last lunch out in Annapolis before moving north again. We have enjoyed Annapolis but are ready to be around less people!

Took a nice dinghy ride all around the area and this is a picture back to our marina showing our boat behind the wall.

Pulling out of Annapolis harbor and heading north again.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge just north of Annapolis.

We also went by Baltimore and could see the bridge that was destroyed by the container ship a couple of months ago. Too far away for a good picture, but you could see the south end of the bridge still over the water. They have it mostly cleaned up and open to full marine traffic again.

This picture was in the Museum and the mural below is on the wall of a building near the harbor.

They have a lot of historical murals all around the harbor development. Loved the tribute to Citation!

The building is still standing but is no longer a brothel, it is now an antique store. There are a lot of antique stores in Havre de Grace.

This was the narrow entrance into the harbor. It was well protected but still had surge. We have been in well protected harbors but still seem to have surge everywhere in the Chesapeake Bay area. Ready for that to end!

I enjoyed the Decoy Museum and Amy tolerated it with me.

There was an antique decoy shop where I was able to purchase an antique working decoy much like the one in this picture in the museum. That was my Happy Father’s Day gift to me!

Had a great lunch in this historic building.
After enjoying the day and evening in Havre de Grace it was a very early morning departure to make a weather window to Cape May, NJ. We pulled out of the harbor at 6am and ran 23-25MPH the entire way through the C&D Canal, this connects the Chesapeake Bay to Delaware Bay, then the length of Delaware Bay and around the point into Cape May. This run was 110 miles and as predicted the winds really picked up about 1PM. We were very glad to be tied up in our slip by 11am. The weather was correct this time and you did not want to be out there yesterday afternoon. We started to explore Cape May yesterday afternoon, which is a great little town, had dinner out, and relaxed on the boat. Yes we did go to bed early after the long day. I got up at 4:15am to prep the boat, take care of the dog, and eat before we shoved off.

We are tucked into this marina and well protected without any surge!

Pano of the marina, we are down on the far right past the building.

We will continue to explore Cape May today and then prep the boat for one last outside run.

There are dead male horseshoe crabs all around the marina. I was told that after the male crab’s breed, they die!
We will leave early again tomorrow morning, by 6am, and run from here to New York City. The winds are predicted to be offshore and the waves 2′ or less, so it should be a good day for the 145 mile outside run. We hope so, or it will be a long day!
We plan to stay just one night near the city, and then move 45 miles north to Half Moon Bay near Courtlandt, NY. We will spend three nights there and explore NYC and the area around us. We will visit the 9/11 Memorial, Times Square, West Point, The Culinary Institute, and many more sights. I will post again when we are in Courtlandt.
Until then hope you have a great week, and yes Memphis is still enjoying the calm waters! She loves to sleep out back while we are underway if the seas are calm and the spray is not getting her wet!
