Good morning from Brewerton, NY. Since the last post we have continued to move west across the Erie Canal and have visited a few more towns.
We have stopped in Waterford, Amsterdam, Little Falls, Sylvan Beach, and are now in Brewerton, NY. We have stopped going up on the Erie Canal and our last two locks started taking us down. We will continue with this until we reach Lake Ontario on 7/4/2024.
As we traveled across the Erie Canal we continued to hit these small towns with beautiful scenery. I was unable to upload the NEBO logs from the last couple of travel days so here they are!

The run from Amsterdam to Little Falls. This was a rainy travel day and we got soaked in the locks holding the lock lines to control the boat. We couldn’t wait to get dry and warm once we arrived.
We did have a break in the rain that evening so we walked into town for a quick dinner before the rain started again.

Walking across the Erie Canal and the actual river on our way into Little Falls.

Found another Italian restaurant for dinner. It was more like a bar but the food was great!

Still a little wet but happy to be done moving in the rain for the day.

This is where we spent the night. On the wall in front of the Rotary building. Lots of loopers here.
The next day we moved to Sylvan Beach through many more locks, and yes it was raining again in the morning for the first three locks.

Little Falls to Sylvan Beach. This move sets us up to cross Lake Oneida the next day.

More narrow and shallow water on this day but we enjoyed the different types of locks.

We did go right by Utica, but really didn’t see the town from the canal.

Our last lift lock, going up, for a while.

Coming into the first lock that will start to take us down. If you look you see that we are at the top of the water/land level as we approach. Compare this to the picture just above were we approach into the lock with the walls showing how high we will be lifted.

We tied on the free wall right in front of the amusement park here in Sylvan Beach. This town is quite the tourist trap!

A view from across the canal.

This park is like something out of our childhood.

A Pano of the games. Shooting, dart ballons, ring toss, water guns, etc. They had all the old fair games.

We found the machine, but we didn’t see Tom Hanks! (From the movie BIG)

A little windy this day to cross Lake Oneida, but it laid down nicely for our crossing the next morning.

Our view for the night.

We did go out for breakfast for a change, which we really enjoy. I had an omelet filled with corned beef hash and cheese. It was unbelievably good! As you can see, the weather is cooler here and we are definitely out of the 90’s!

Pulling out of Sylvan Beach the next morning. As you can see the wall was pretty full. We have definitely caught up with many of the loopers.

Sylvan Beach to Brewerton. This was a quick easy crossing and an opportunity to clean out the engines a little after all the slow running in the canal. I am pretty sure NEBO has our top speed wrong on this one! I am sure this big girl did not hit 41 MPH!

Our spot on the outside wall here at Winter Harbor in Brewerton. We will spend 3 nights here and enjoy a boat parade today at 2PM and the fireworks tonight.

A Pano of the service center and huge lawn they have here. Memphis is loving running around on the grass. She is very happy here.

A view of the boat and marina from the dinghy.

We are using the dinghy to get into the town and going out for dinner at the waterfront restaurants.

Tied up on the public wall in town for lunch.

The old lighthouse on the canal. Not sure who could see it as it is buried in the trees and not close enough to see from the lake.

We were relaxing in the afternoon waiting for the arrival of Willliam and up walks Jeremy! We have not seen him since we left Door County and didn’t know he was arriving here. It is great to see a friend from home.

William arriving in Brewerton. This is he and Erica’s new boat. They are transporting it back from Massachusetts to Door County this week. Erica was able to be onboard for the first two days, and then had to fly back to the kids. Their family will really enjoy this boat as they grow up.

Matt and Murph are helping William transport the boat across the Erie Canal and into Lake Ontario before they jump off and fly home. Then William has Jeremy and his father-in-law helping him across the Welland Canal, Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and finally across Lake Michigan before arriving in Ephraim this weekend.

Amy and I had the chance to take the crew out for dinner which we really enjoyed. Not sure what Murph ordered to drink, but he did get an umbrella!

Fellow looper got this picture of us going out to dinner. I am not sure she is supposed to hold 6 people, I will have to check the plate!

William and Erica’s new boat. It is a very similar hull design as ours and I know they are really enjoying the ride in the bigger waves. Amy and I can’t wait to cruise with them in the future with Adeline and Eleanor.

The gang was up early and off for the last lock on the Erie Canal before taking a right and heading up the Oswego Canal the next morning. It was great to see everyone, and we look forward to seeing them this fall when we return to Door County.
Today, July 3rd, Amy and I will run some errands with the marina courtesy car and stock the boat for our run into Canada before we enjoy a boat parade and fireworks tonight.
We plan to move to Oswego tomorrow, then up to Clayton, NY in the 1000 islands area on the 5th. We will spend a couple of days in the northern area of 1000 islands before we start down toward the Trent-Severn Canal system that will take us to Georgian Bay on top of Lake Huron.
I will try to post again from the Clayton area before we enter Canada. Until then I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Fourth of July.
