Amy and I have had the most relaxing part of the trip yet here in Marathon. Marlin Bay Resort and Marina was a great recommendation and a great place to relax this week.

We are backed in right in front of the pool bar and pool facility.

Pano view from the entrance lighthouse at the mouth of the harbor.

View back to the clubhouse from the pool bar at night.
As I mentioned in the last post, we were going by car to Key West for the day with Mary and Phil. They have spent time there, so they were great tour guides! We did hit all the typical sights, but also toured the older section and some famous stops a lot of people do not visit.

Had to start with the two pictures everyone would expect to see!

Did not know this is where Pan Am started!

We ate lunch here at First Flight, and the food was great.

I am pretty sure this is the only pirate Amy wants to see on this trip!
We did walk most of town and even took in the area down by the cruise ships. After seeing that area, I was done and ready to get back to our little oasis in the Keys!

Yes the pool bar makes great drinks!

View back into the harbor from the top of the lighthouse at the entrance to Marlin Bay Marina.

Memphis getting ready for the sunset after the winds finally calmed!
It has been a very windy week and we are now getting a window to move again. We plan to leave here tomorrow and go outside the Keys up to Key Largo. We will stay at Marina Del Mar for a week and wait for the next weather window to cross into the Bahamas.
We have been busy getting all our paperwork ready for arrival with Memphis and for ourselves. We have Memphis scheduled for her health certificate tomorrow morning at 7:30am and then she should be all set. The Bahamas are a little bit of a hassle to bring a dog into, but we should be good. (We Hope)
As I said before, Marathon has been a great stop and we have enjoyed so many of the great restaurants in the area. They have included small local joints like Franks for Italian dinner and La Nina for lunch!

Great little dive for Cuban Sandwiches.
We also would recommend SS Wreck and Steak & Lobster. We have eaten way too much seafood on this stop. We will get one more breakfast out today at The Stuffed Pig. They put white gravy on almost everything! Then we will need a bike ride today to the opening in Seven Mile Bridge to work off some of the food!
We will have some prep to do today on the boat for traveling The Straits Of Florida tomorrow. The Straits connect the Gulf Of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. We are looking forward to the next part of this journey. This will be our first time out of the Gulf and into the Atlantic with Who Dat. We will actually be approximately 95 miles from Cuba tomorrow with our course. Hard to believe the journey sometimes and how far away from home we really are. Once in Key Largo we will be watching for our weather window to cross safely to the Bahamas. The crossing will be about 85 miles from Key Largo to Bimini. Then Bimini to Chub Cay, another 95 miles. After that we are still deciding our best route to arrive in Staniel Cay by 2/24/2024. Staniel Cay is an additional 140+ miles depending on our route. We do have a reservation at Staniel Cay Yacht Club from 2/24 – 3/2. Then we will start north up the Exumas and into the Abacos before returning to the US around the end of March.
Looking forward to Key Largo and seeing what that Key has to offer. Until the next post, hope you have a great weekend!
